2009 OMA NOMINEE: OUTMUSICIAN OF THE YEAR!

November 1st, 2009

We’ve been nominated by OUTmusic in the category of OutMusician of the year!

Our track “Queer Nation”, off our debut album Drive Away Home (now available on itunes), was nominated for its impressive combination of music and activism. We’re up against other great artists, such as Ari Gold and Scott Free, so the competition is tough! The only way to vote is to become a member of the LGBT Recording Academy. By signing up, not only will you be able to show us your love and support, but you would be an advocate for equal and inclusive presence of GLBT musicians (like us!) in the mainstream entertainment industry.

The awards are given out on December 10th, so between now and then, we’ll be searching for some hot and dazzling clothing items to don on the red carpet and practicing our smiles for the pesky paparazzi ;-)

Dear Kit,

Thank you so much for taking the time to write to us in response to the November article “My boyfriend turned out to be a girl.” We are grateful for your thoughtful feedback, and we’re taking your reaction very seriously.

At Seventeen, we are committed to supporting and embracing all girls, everywhere, including the LGBT community. We are working with leaders from GLAAD to further discuss LGBT issues, and how we can best reach out to teens who may have been hurt or disappointed by this coverage.

With a soundscape of electric violin played by Lyris Hung and words and flow by Kate Rigg, the Mamas penetrate stereotypes of Asian American identity and emerge rocking your world and loving you long time. Part character comedy, part standup, all music, Slanty Eyed Mama will let you in on the urban nuyorasian experience.
