Finally Caught the Bug
May 12th, 2008Greetings from Portland, OR. What a crunchy little city! Overall, it’s been great. Pretty easy to navigate what with its four quarters and all.
We did a show for very enthusiastic youth at SMYRC (Sexual Minority Youth Resource Center) during its 10th Anniversary. The audience had a lot of energy, it felt like we were being blown away on that stage instead of vice versa. Then we got to catch part of their drag show afterwards, which was so much fun and impressive!
The next day, we performed at In Other Words, the only non-profit feminist bookstore left in the country. The show was great - the turn out larger than expected - and folks who heard of us from all over came to support. We felt really bad when a group of girls who heard of us from MySpace showed up 20 minutes after we had finished performing because they got lost getting there. Kit gave them stickers.
Sad news. At the moment we’re both sick with something. It started with me first - feeling tingles in my throat, then getting a nasty cough. I spent the rest of my vocal energy at the In Other Words show and now my voice is showing signs similar to when I had laryngitis earlier in the tour. Now Kit, who is currently asleep in the other twin bed beside me, is sleeping through his fever and chills while I’m sneezing, sniffling, and trying to sleep while my head is trying not to split open from the migraine.
It’s really, really nasty. And we have a long drive ahead. But the good thing is, we have a good long couple of days (yes it is long for us) before our next show in San Francisco, so we’ll get to rest up and relax. Hopefully this weather warms up and we’ll feel better again. Till then, I’m off to see the sandman. ZZZ.

oh man… you are coming to SF this weekend! i want to go to your show on saturday, but i don’t know if i can make it…

I’m sorry to hear you were down with a bug, and I hope you are well in time for your Bay Area performances.
I really enjoyed your show at SMYRC. Thank you so much for performing for the youth. It was a treat! I hope you’re able to return to Portland one day.

Oh, yeah… forgot to mention… a selection of dark, blurry photos of you are temporarily in an online Photo Gallery. Since I haven’t finished preparing my SMYRC event photos and installed them in a permanent gallery, I don’t yet know if the photos currently posted will remain, be moved, or be replaced by other photos. It will be a few days before I get an opportunity to complete the post-processing on my photos.
